Since August 2018 when I started my tenure at Ugu South Coast Tourism, the organisation has been exceptionally busy preparing itself for, and implementing, strategic and operational changes that will leapfrog us into a new, focused and future-friendly direction.
During this time and among other things, we have launched our Destination Management Framework, aligned our strategic, short-term objectives to prioritise low-hanging fruit, initiated a continuous tour packaging drive, opened a new Visitor Information Centre, strengthened our ties with key stakeholders, embarked on a drive to stimulate tourism investment and are in a process of restructuring the entity to better deliver against its marketing and developmental mandate.
With this bi-monthly column, we intend to share with the public and the local business sector, news and information directly from Tourism, as we are all, in one way or another, involved in tourism.
To kick off, I’d like to invite all businesses, tourism and non-tourism, big businesses to SMMEs, to an information-sharing session taking place on 19 March at Margate Hotel from 9am to 4pm. Topics to be covered include Consumer Protection Services, Tourism Business Grading, Tourism Business Funding, Environmental Health, Tourism Business Licencing and Town Planning.
Presenters are from relevant associations and departments from the Department of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, Ugu District Municipality, Ugu South Coast Tourism and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality. Tourism and non-tourism businesses will get clarity on the new tourism establishment grading criteria, legal guidelines in terms of customer service and what businesses can and should do to assist on environmental issues that affect the South Coast.
Bookings are essential, so please make sure you don’t miss this valuable opportunity to take your business and the KZN South Coast destination forward in 2019 and RSVP by emailing email@example.com or calling 039 682 7944 by 12h00 on Friday, 15 March. We’d like to see all our local business players and all our tourism establishments there. For those who would like to become members of Tourism, we will have our Membership officer at hand for ease of registration and hope to see the South Coast business and tourism community in full force at this informative event.
