One of Ugu South Coast Tourism’s major priorities in addressing tourism growth in the district is supporting the development of innovative and unique tourism products in order to extend the geographical spread of tourists across the destination, thus encouraging transformation and attracting potential investments.
This means looking beyond the beaches and understanding the work of our district’s four municipalities to see where the need and the tourism potential for the developmental initiatives lie.
As an entity we are working closely with our various stakeholders, and especially our local municipalities and local area committees, to discover and identify the support that is needed in an area. Engagements are currently underway with all Ugu South Coast Tourism grant funders to align and strengthen our efforts in every area, and Annual General Meetings have been called with our private sector members to get their valuable input as we move forward.
Some of the initiatives and areas that have already been identified for support are KwaNzimakwe, KwaXolo Caves, Dududu, Umzumbe River Trails, KwaNyuswa, Nyandezulu, Amandawe Precint and Harding. New Local Area Committees have been established in many of these areas to facilitate the process and we look forward to them giving their valuable input and support in order to achieve success in their areas.
In addition, our plans for the new fiscal, starting in July, include support to SMME’s, youth owned businesses, tour guides, students and arts and crafts suppliers. Support will range from skills development and business linkages to access to markets and information.
If you’d like to get more involved in tourism in your area, you are invited to attend the relevant AGM for your area. The following AGMs are still upcoming: Umuziwabantu (25 May); Port Shepstone (27 May); Ezinqoleni/Oribi (28 May); Shelly Beach (28 May); Hibberdene (29 May); Southbroom (30 May); Pennington (1 Jun); KwaNdwalane (4 Jun); Margate (5 Jun); KwaNzimakwe (6 Jun); Scottburgh (8 Jun).
