Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) is positioning the KZN South Coast destination as an emerging business tourism destination, which can attract small to medium-sized MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) events.
Traditionally focused on leisure tourism, USCT identified business tourism as an area of growth for the destination. The destination is currently ideal for conferences and special events that can accommodate a maximum of 300 delegates seated cinema style in a conference and up to 400 for a banquet with establishments having up to 900 rooms. The Wild Coast Sun, on our doorstep, however, can accommodate conferences of up to 900 cinema-style and 500 for a banquet. There are diverse, eco-active and adventurous teambuilding opportunities in scenic surroundings and the destination is ideal for rewarding and affordable incentives. The destination is easy to get to and around in with all accommodation, activities, attractions and services within easy reach.
USCT is in the process of procuring a senior MICE specialist to assist with the process of bidding for conferences and events and to be the destination’s representative at business tourism networking events. The entity is also looking at attracting investment, as well as providing training and development in the sector.
One of the key benefits of business tourism, apart from its major economic impact, is its potential to reduce seasonality. Establishments, investors, tourism practitioners, SMMEs and youth, are all encouraged to investigate business tourism as an area of specialisation, investment or growth.
